These postcards represent a collection of romantic exchanges between my grandfather, Arnold Schenk, and his then girlfriend, my grandmother, Emma Spr?ngli during their courtship in the early 1900's. This album was started in 1901 when my grandparents started dating. In the absence of telephones, these postcards were useful to exchange lovers expressions. Since the postcards allowed text only on the opposite side of the address, it required very small printing, often sandwiched between the photo or drawing and the edge of the postcard. Care has been taken to identify the dates of the cards, and it is possible with the knowledge of the German language to follow the exchange between the two lovers.
